==V.E.1. ELIGIBITILY FOR USE==

:1.01 All drivers must be licensed and approved
 
:1.02 All drivers must fill out an application form authorized by their unit president EVERY semester. In order for this application to be accepted, the driver’s driving record must be approved by the BSC’s insurance provider.
 
:1.03 All drivers must read safety materials and attend driver’s education as required.
 
==V.E.2. GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORIZED USE - MUST BE FOLLOWED==
:2.01 Vehicles are to be used SOLELY FOR BSC BUSINESS. Any other use is expressly unauthorized.
 
:2.02 Vehicles must be signed out during office hours (8:00am-3:30pm, M-F) to use them.
::3.02.1 The Toyota Tundra is signed out via CK, all other vehicles are signed out via CM.
 
:2.03 Drivers CANNOT use a vehicle if it is already signed out by someone else.
::3.03.1 The “reservation” time will only be held for 20 min.
::3.03.2 After 20 min, grace period, drivers will lose their reservation and someone else may check out the vehicle.
 
:2.04 All trucks (Toyota Pickup excepted) must have a rider to get out and act as a spotter when backing up.
 
:2.05 Trips more than 10 miles outside the Berkeley City Limit must be pre-approved by the Maintenance Coordinator (this includes trips to San Francisco).
 
:2.06 Drivers must report vehicle malfunctions of suspicions thereof to the Maintenance Coordinator or Warehouse Supervisor.
 
:2.07 MAXIMUM VEHICLE USE IS 3 HOURS
::Use for more than 3 hours/day OR weekend usage must be approved 24 hours in advance by Board, Cabinet, the Executive Director, Maintenance Coordinator, OR Warehouse Supervisor.
 
:2.08 Vehicles MAY NOT be kept OVERNIGHT!
 
:2.09 Drivers must fill out a vehicle inspection form.
::3.09.1 Record the odometer reading at the BEGINNING and END of your trip
::3.09.2 Record any pre-existing damage (otherwise the driver may be held liable for the damage).
 
:2.10 Inspection form and KEY must be turned in to CM within 24 hours of using the vehicle.
::3.10.1 After hours return: Fold the key inside the inspection form and place them in the drop slot outside Central Office.
 
:2.11 NO SMOKING is allowed in any of the BSC’s vehicles.
 
==V.E.3. CHARGES/FINES FOR USE==
:3.01 Houses shall be charged the IRS rate ($0.345/Mile) for all Central Level Vehicle use.
 
:3.02 There shall be a $20 fine to the DRIVER for failing to properly sign-out a vehicle.
 
:3.03 There shall be a $3 fine for every half-hour or part thereof the vehicle is late. The maximum charge per day is $100. Keeping the vehicle overnight will automatically incur the $100 maximum per-day late fee.
 
:3.04 There shall be a $5 per day fine to the DRIVER for late return of the key or inspection form, if the key is kept for more than 24 hours.
 
:3.05 There shall be a $150 fine to the DRIVER for failing to follow “Guidelines for Authorized Use” and for using the vehicle without perms
 
==V.E.4. ACCIDENTS==
:4.01 Intentional failure to report an accident shall result in a $25 fine and a suspension of all future use of co-op vehicles. If an accident is judged by the Executive Director to be caused by negligence, the driver shall forfeit all future use of co-op vehicles. The decision may be appealed to AdCom and the Board of Directors.
 
:4.02 If a driver is found to be at fault twice, s/he loses driving privileges.
 
:4.03 For accidents involving the Central Kitchen haul, the fine will be doubled and split between the driver and the spotter. The vehicle supervisor has the power to revoke driving privileges for unsafe driving.
 
:4.04 Drivers who are found “at fault” on the police record will be responsible for ten percent of the insurance deductible. The remaining ninety percent will be paid by C.O. (for CO drivers) or house account (for house drivers). Houses have the right to redistribute part of their fine to house drivers if the house driver is at fault.
 
:4.05 All fines are may be appealed to the Operations Committee.
 
==V.E.5. PURCHASE==
:5.01 When the BSC considers buying a new vehicle, the Board of Directors must decide where the vehicle will be parked before it is purchased.
