JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Accounting/Collections Assistant works in the Accounting Department and their primary responsibility is supporting and working with BSC members who cannot pay their rent on time. In conjunction with the Accounting/Office Supervisor and Accounts Receivables Specialist, the duties of this position will include negotiating and approving payment arrangements in accordance with BSC procedures. This may mean explaining current payment policies to members, assisting with payment arrangement processing/tracking and in the A/R database and Excel, producing financial reports, and maintaining email correspondence to ensure that members are in compliance with their payment schedule. The Accounting/Collections Assistant is also expected to support the Housing Department in answering phones and greeting customers, as well as assisting with other Accounting projects/tasks (e.g. assisting with the annual audit process, reconciliations, and other finance projects), as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must have excellent office and record-keeping skills. Applicants must also have excellent oral and written communication skills. Applicants must have the ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines. Applicants must be able to type 40 wpm and operate a 10-key calculator quickly and accurately. Applicants must possess the ability to work in a past-paced office environment. Applicants must have intermediate skill with Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel and databases. You cannot hold a compensated house-level position and this position concurrently. You cannot be a member of the Board of Directors and hold a central-level job. You must be a current BSC member to hold this position.

HOURS/PAY:

This is an 11 hour/week position, compensated with a rent credit at $18.00/hour for 6 hrs/week and fulfilling your five-hours/week workshift requirement. Apartment dwellers and Summer residents will receive an additional rent credit stipend for the five workshift hours (at $18/hour), as this job does not replace the workshift requirement at the apartments or during the Summer. If for whatever reason this job begins mid-semester, the stipend will be prorate
